SU meeting on 10-2-08
Posted by admin at 8:47 pm in Uncategorized

3 service units meet together and Diana went over the Lane County News and then each SU broke up to discuss business.

Here is a basic overview of what was talked about in the main meeting:

  • troops will be encouraged to switch their bank accounts to Bank of America.  Bank of America may be offering a $50 incentive each troops account that transfers to them.  For now troops need to continue with their current bank.  More info will be coming soon.
  • Nut sale starts tomorrow (Saturday)
  • New council Id Strips were handed out at the meeting.  You can pick yours from the office if you missed the meeting.  Through the month of October they will be offered to troops at no cost.
  • Troops will have new numbers.  Add “20″ if you have a three number troop and add “200″ if you have a two number troop.  The shop will sale each number for a # for a $1.00.    For example my new troop numbers will be 144 -> 20144 and 58 -> 20058.
  • You can pick up a 2009 GS calendar and pocket planner in the office for $3.00 each.
  • Next months meeting is MANDATORY. Nov. 6th from 6-9pm  If you can’t attend that meeting there are some other times the meeting is offered (contact the office).
  • 2009 cookie sale dates (pre-sale is Jan. 10-25) and (direct sale Feb. 20 - March 15).
  • office staff will have new e-mail addresses

Here is what was discussed in our own SU meeting:

  • Melinda talked about the cookie dollar program and to contact Oliver F. (you can call the office to get his contact info) if you want to be informed about what is happening with that program.
  • Community Service Project- Grace Manor Christmas box project.  This year we have 12 more residents for a total 48 residents.  I passed around a sign up sheet.  I have a total of 17 boxes being filled.  We need a lot more filled.  Please contact me to sign up to help again in this project.

That was basically the meeting.  Please remember that next months meeting is a training and it’s mandatory.  And the consensus was for me to bring the “starter kits” for the Christmas project box to the Dec. meeting.

We had our 1st meeting of the year this past Thursday.  It was combined with SU 611 because staff from the office were short handed that night.

Please make sure to head into the office and check the box for all of your hand outs.  Here is a brief outline of what we covered.

  • On-time registration
  • PCS expire (Sept. 22)
  • Hookey Weekend - Sept 26 -28 (Fall Product training will be offered at that weekend and our Jill will be teaching a scrapbooking class)
  • Nut Sale Training (no magazine sale this year)- Sept. 23 or Sept 29
  • MANADTORY MEETING for all Leaders and Co-Leaders - it will be offered during our Nov. SU meeting.  It will be from 6 to 9 pm.
  • Grace Manor - Christmas Box project.  Our SU plans on going to the assistant living home during the holiday season with gift boxes.  Currently I’m waiting to hear back from the Grace Manor on how many people we will be creating these boxes for this year.  A sign up will be coming soon.

  • Mark your calendar for the Camporee April 25 - 27th   … price per person will be $30

  • If you signed up for Daisy Days please contact Jenny Allen for info on what you will be doing for that meeting
  • Mark your calendar for our Grace Manor Birthday Party.  The date is set for Saturday May 3rd.  Time is tentatively set for 2:00 pm (going to see if we can move the time up)
  • A suggestion for your  Gift of Caring (extra cookies) is to donate them to our Grace Manor Birthday Party.
  • Mark your calendar for our Bridging Ceremony: Thursday May 29th at 6:30 pm (Mitchell Park at Eugene Bible College).  Each troop is asked to bring enough cookies to feed their troop and families (we will put them out and everyone will share them)
  • Next month troop financial reports are due May 15th

Hopefully that brings everyone pretty much up to date on the info they missed this evening.  We only have two more SU meetings.  And at our May SU meeting we are having the banana split party, below is a reminder about how that will work.

At this 1st meeting in August (actually it represents the meeting for Sept) I will keep a chart with each leader and each meeting on it and for every meeting that you attend you will get a mark on the chart which represents one item that will  go on your end of the year banana split. You can earn up to nine items and they are as follows: Banana, one scoop of ice cream, 2nd scoop of ice cream, 3rd scoop of ice cream, choc. topping, strawberry topping, pineapple topping, whip cream and a spoon (bowl is a freebie). In May we will have a Service Unit  Banana Split party and each leader will receive the items for how many meetings they attended. If a leader does not have all of the items, like a spoon, she can buy it with a donation of money to the JLWFF.
